Tiger’s Nest is an 8th-century monastery built around Guru Rinpoche’s sacred cave. Clinging to a cliff 900 m above the Paro Valley, it is one of Bhutan’s most breathtaking pilgrimage sites and a defining symbol of the country’s spiritual heritage.

Rinpung Dzong is a 17th-century fortress-monastery that overlooks Paro Valley. It houses monks and district offices, and its grand architecture reflects Bhutan’s deep cultural and administrative traditions.

The Paro Tshechu is one of Bhutan’s largest festivals, bringing villagers and visitors together each year. Sacred mask dances and vibrant rituals celebrate Bhutanese spirituality and community life.

Paro International Airport is Bhutan’s sole international airport, set among steep mountains and terraced fields. It serves as the dramatic gateway to the country’s valleys, temples, and landscapes.

Built in 1637–38, Punakha Dzong stands at the meeting of the Po and Mo rivers. Known as one of Bhutan’s most beautiful dzongs, it showcases grand architecture framed by blooming jacaranda trees in spring.

Held in February or March, the Punakha Tshechu and Drubchen feature masked dances, sacred rituals, and the dramatic unfurling of the giant Thongdrel, making them among Bhutan’s most vibrant celebrations.

Punakha serves as Bhutan’s winter capital due to its mild climate. The king and chief abbot spend the season here, reflecting the valley’s cultural and political significance.

Punakha offers riverside hikes, rice-field paths, a long suspension bridge over the Po Chu, and visits to Chimi Lhakhang, the famed “Divine Madman” fertility temple.

Jambay Lhakhang is a 7th-century temple and one of Bhutan’s oldest sacred sites. It hosts the annual Jambay Drup festival, famous for its spiritual dances and fire blessing rituals.

Built in 1549, Jakar Dzong sits high above Jakar town. Its vast structure symbolizes Bumthang’s religious heritage and offers sweeping views across the valley.

Bumthang’s autumn festivals, including Jakar Tshechu and Jambay Lhakhang Drup, showcase dramatic Cham dances, fire blessings, and traditional performances cherished by locals and travellers.

Bumthang’s rolling valleys offer artisanal experiences—cheesemaking, weaving, chocolate production, and peaceful meadows that highlight the region’s rich rural heritage.
